Explorer Camps


From single-day activities at Camp Hale to overnight wilderness trips in the White River National Forest, your child will develop an appreciation for our very own backyard as they learn to navigate and conquer the great outdoors. Each camp is designed to help build necessary skills and knowledge of the outdoors for kids to safely and properly recreate on their own.

Backyard Adventure Day Camp
Session One: July 18-21 FULL
Session Two: August 1-4 FULLWe’re excited to offer multi-adventure day camps for younger kiddos to explore our own backyard. Participants will be exposed to a variety of activities that may include hiking, indoor rock climbing, art in nature, archery, and more. Activities vary per week and are dependent on weather and conditions.
Due to the popularity of this camp, please consider limiting your registrations to one or two sessions so everyone has the chance to enjoy Backyard Adventure Camp!

Session One: June 6-9 (Gypsum)
Session Two: July 5-8 (Edwards) FULLWe’re excited to offer multi-adventure day camps for older kiddos to explore outdoor recreation in our own backyard. Participants will be exposed to a variety of high adventure activities that may include hiking, outdoor rock climbing, stand-up paddle boarding, mountain biking, fly fishing, and testing their skills on the team-building course at Maloit Park. Activities vary per week and are dependent on weather and conditions.

Session One: June 13-15 (Gypsum) FULL
Session Two: July 11-13 (Edwards) FULLMountain Recreation’s intro to climbing camp is a great introduction to rock climbing. This camp will introduce and teach standard rock climbing techniques such as knots, belaying, and the correct way to move over rock. After two days of introduction at one of the mountain recreation indoor climbing walls, youth will put their skills to the test on real rock at various top rope climbing sites in the Camp Hale area.

Session One: June 20-22 (Gypsum)
Session Two: July 25-27 (Edwards) FULLLearn to make your way confidently up the famous rock faces of Camp Hale! The Mountain Recreation climbing camp is a great introduction to outdoor top rope climbing. This camp will refresh rock climbing techniques such as knots, belaying, and the correct way to move over rock. After one day of reintroduction at one of the mountain recreation indoor climbing walls, youth will put their skills to the test on real rock at various top rope climbing sites in the Camp Hale area.

Price: $175Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Camp
Session One: June 13-15 (Edwards)
Session Two: July 18-20 (Edwards)This 3-day camp delivered in partnership with Stand Up Paddle Colorado is designed for youth who want a basic introduction to stand up paddle boarding some of the best water in the area. Campers will focus on paddling skills, communication, and whitewater safety as they learn the fundamentals of navigating through thrilling rapids. The camp will start out on calm lake waters allowing youth to practice basic SUP paddling, progressing from basic paddling on the lake to the thrilling whitewater of the Upper Colorado River.

Session One: June 6-8 FULL
Session Two: July 25-27 FULL
Session Three: Aug 8-10 FULLJoin Trout Trickers guides this summer to learn how to cast, reel, and net fish in our own backyard! Mountain Recreation fly-fishing camps are offered in partnership with Trout Trickers and are a great introduction to the world of fly-fishing. This camp will introduce and teach basic fly-fishing concepts such as choosing the right flies, casting technique, and fly-fishing etiquette. This 3-day camp will introduce campers to the sport of fly-fishing and by day three they will put their skills to the test while wading and casting on the banks of the Eagle River. Registration opens on May 3.
