Gypsum Rec Center opens Monday, May 11

May 11 Opening Information

The Gypsum Recreation Center will look different than the facility as you knew it before social distancing orders–at least for a little while. The pool, Child Watch, gymnastics center, walking track, and café/lobby will not be accessible at this time. However, you will have access to most of the fitness floor – one hour, one section at a time – and outdoor fitness classes!

Please know that your health and safety are very important to us, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility as we figure things out during this first phase of reopening.  We ask that everyone abide by the following commitments to allow us to remain open and healthy:

  1. I will maintain 6 feet of social distance.
  2. I will wash my hands often.
  3. I will cover my face in public.
  4. I will stay home when I am sick.
  5. I will get tested immediately if I have symptoms.

We are pleased to announce admission to the Gypsum Rec Center will be free for the month of May.

Virtual Tour

  • Annual & Monthly Gym Memberships

    Annual Memberships

When you’re ready to come visit us, please let the front desk know you have an annual membership and they will extend it the correct amount of days from March 13 to the first day you come see us again. Questions – email Memberships@MountainRec.org.

    Monthly Memberships

If you had a membership prior to our closure on March 13, we will reactivate your membership for June upon your request and credit your first month for the number of days you paid for in March and were not able to visit. You can start setting this up today with our staff by calling (970) 777-8888 or emailing Memberships@MountainRec.org. Since monthly fees were not charged in April, our membership software (CivicRec) indicates that all monthly membership accounts have overdue balances at this time. Once you call to reactivate your membership, that overdue balance will be removed as our staff adjusts your account to reflect the time missed during the closure.

Social Distancing & Sanitization Requirements

  • Your Promise to Others
    • For the safety and consideration of all guests, masks or face coverings that cover your nose and mouth must be worn at all times inside the facility. Guests must provide their own face coverings.
    • Reserve one-hour time blocks to use the Gypsum Recreation Center fitness floor up to two days in advance. Until Mountain Recreation can operate without capacity restrictions, walk-in use will not be possible. Reservations must be made in advance but should not be made without excitement.
    • Please arrive no earlier than 5 minutes prior to the start of your reservation to allow guests to exit the building safely with social distancing in mind. Please be ready to exit the building when your reservation is over. There will be no overlap allowed between reservation groups.
    • Bring only what you need and can keep with you. Locker rooms and lockers will not be available.
    • Please bring your own full water bottle and refrain from using the drinking fountains. Bottle fillers will be available.
    • Observe proper social distancing while using the facility and stay six feet from your nearest neighbor or staff member. Even if you are related or live together, help set the example for all guests.
    • Practice proper gym etiquette by sanitizing machines, equipment, and accessories before and after each use.
    • Practice good hygiene by washing your hands before and after facility use, refraining from touching your eyes, nose and mouth, and coughing or sneezing into your elbow. Please blow your nose in the restroom where you can immediately wash your hands. Remember that you can still spread your joy without spreading your germs!
    • Children under the age of 13 are not permitted on the Fitness Floor; kids aged 13 and 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
    • If you are sick or not feeling well, please consider the health and wellness of your fellow patrons and stay home. Just don’t stay away forever! We would miss you.
    • Failure to follow rules or staff instructions will result in loss of privileges.

  • Our Promise to You
    • Fitness Floor attendants and/or Mountain Rec staff will be present to confirm your reservation, guide you to your section, and ensure that all guests adhere to the new regulations and practice appropriate gym etiquette.
    • Fitness Floor equipment has been spread out, rearranged, and/or limited to assist guests in their social distancing efforts.
    • Children under the age of 13 are not permitted on the Fitness Floor; kids aged 13 and 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
    • Reminders, guidelines, and announcements regarding healthy and safety precautions, expectations, and requirements will be visible throughout the facility.
    • Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will be available for use throughout the facility and bathrooms will have ample soap for hand washing.
    • Each one-hour time block on the fitness floor will be followed by a 15-minute sanitation sweep performed by Mountain Recreation staff. There will be additional midday and end of day sanitation breaks for more extensive cleaning efforts.
    • Facility entry/exit traffic will be one way in and one way out. Guests will enter via the front doors and exit via the gymnasium to minimize social contact and limit group size.
    • Social distancing floor markers will be provided throughout the facility to assist guests in their efforts to give others the appropriate amount of space.
    • Only staff feeling healthy and well will be accepting shifts. All Mountain Recreation staff will be encouraged to practice caution and required to sign an acknowledgement that they have not been demonstrating any of the following symptoms:

  • What's Available in the Gypsum Rec CenterClasses, equipment, and how to register for both

There are two styles of one-hour classes that you can register for online:

    • Fitness Classes: The same instructor-led classes that you know and love but in outdoor locations around the facility like the Lundgren Theater stage or Gypsum Sports Complex turf field. No previous knowledge or experience required – just bring yourself and your willingness to be taught; your instructor will handle the rest. Please view our fitness schedule and register for classes.
    • One Hour, One Section: This option is a free style hour in the fitness floor section for which you register. Please note the one-hour duration of your visit will be limited to the section you register for; access to other sections will be not be permitted. No instructors, no set agendas. There are three sections to choose from.
      • Cardio Corner. Where the treadmills, stair climbers, elliptical machines, and bikes live. If you’re wanting to really get sweaty and get your heart rate up, this section is for you.
      • Free Weights & Power Racks. The name is probably self-explanatory; you’ll find dumb bells, squat racks, and chest press benches here. This section is for the heavy lifters; anyone who is interested in watching their form in the mirror and loading up the weight should consider this section.
      • Life Fitness Weight Machines. That’s what we call our pin weight machines. If you’re not interested in hauling around weights to load up machines and would rather just move a pin to select the weight you want to use, this section is the perfect fit for you! There are a variety of arm, leg, and back machines available here.

For the free weight and life fitness sections above, it is recommended that you take a quick jog or bike ride outside to warm up immediately prior to your weight training reservation start time.
