Mountain Recreation District (Mountain Rec) invites the community to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Edwards Skatepark from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.

The event will feature a special appearance by professional skateboarder Julian Christianson, who will sign autographs and meet fans. A Denver native, Christianson has earned international recognition for his smooth regular stance and standout performances, including a 5th place at Tampa Pro 2024, winning the Boardr Des Moines Streetstyle and multiple finals appearances this year.

The celebration will include prizes, giveaways, a raffle and live music by DJ Stennor. At 1:30 p.m. skaters can catch or participate in the Flying High Contest, followed by an Over the Mountain Step-Up Contest at 2 p.m.

Opened in 2005, the Edwards Skatepark was Eagle Valley’s first permanent concrete skatepark. Over the years, the skatepark has grown to nearly 30,000 sq. ft. and remains a hub for skaters of all ages. The park was initially funded by a Great Outdoors Colorado grant, Eagle County, Mountain Rec and through additional public and private contributions. It continues to be managed by Mountain Rec.

Local skater and event organizer Patrick O’Toole helped bring the celebration to life.

“I recently moved back to the valley with my family, but I grew up skating here,” O’Toole said. “It’s incredible to see how the park has grown and how many people continue to use it. Partnering with Mountain Rec to celebrate the history with the community just felt right.”

Special thanks to event sponsors Liquid Death, Bones Wheels and Bearings, Independent Trucks, Transition Sports, Dutchess Rides, Rocky Mountain Taco, Skatestart and New Balance Numeric Skate Shoes.
