Mountain Recreation District invites Eagle County residents to celebrate Active Aging Week from Oct. 5-9. Throughout the week, community members can access free fitness classes, wellness workshops, health resources and social activities at Mountain Rec facilities, including the Edwards Field House, Eagle Pool & Ice Rink and Gypsum Recreation Center.

Active Aging Week highlights the contributions of older adults while encouraging lifelong wellness, social connection and active lifestyles. Mountain Recreation, alongside local community partners, will offer a full schedule of free activities designed for older adults of all fitness levels.

“Active Aging Week is an opportunity to showcase how staying active and connected enhances quality of life,” said Miriah Clarke-Postle, Mountain Recreation’s Day Camps and Active Older Adults Supervisor. “Whether you want to try a new fitness class, meet friends on the pickleball court or learn about local health and wellness resources, we offer a range of opportunities to participate.”

Highlights for the week include modified, joint-friendly fitness classes such as Gentle Yoga, Tai Chi Fit, Water Aerobics and Zumba. In partnership with local health organizations, Mountain Rec will also offer specialized wellness sessions, including acudetox (five-needle acupuncture), health workshops and educational resources such as Medicare essentials. Participants can also take advantage of nature walks, drop-in pickleball, free ice skating, open facility access and opportunities to connect with others across all three district hubs.

While Active Aging Week is designed for older adults, activities are free and all are welcome regardless of age. No preregistration is required, and participants are welcome to drop in. Activities are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants can view the full schedule, activity descriptions, and locations by clicking here.
