A Year of Fun at the Gypsum Recreation Center

There is always something happening at the Gypsum Recreation Center! From fitness and community events to holiday celebrations, competitions and giving back, the Gypsum Recreation Center is much more than a place to work out. Here’s a look at a year of fun, connection and community.

By the Numbers

Over the past year, the Gypsum Recreation Center had 142,707 membership visits, averaging nearly 391 visits every day. We also had 11,186 membership sales and 9,823 daily admissions from guests enjoying the facility without a membership.

Our community kept our spaces busy with 173 rentals and 386 hours of nonprofit rentals, helping local organizations bring programs and events to life.

Compared to the previous year, membership visits increased 6.1%, daily admission sales increased 17%, and membership sales increased 2.7%.

January – Giving Back

We kick off the year with our annual Coat Drive, collecting hundreds of coats to donate to the Youth Closet. It’s one of many ways our community comes together to support local families.

February – Gymnastics Takes Over

Our annual home gymnastics meet brings hundreds of young athletes from across the region to the Gypsum Recreation Center. The gym is packed with energy as athletes compete and families cheer them on.

March – Try Something New

This year we introduced our first Indoor Triathlon, with about 15 participants taking on the challenge. The event was a success, and we plan to make it an annual tradition!

April – Spring Fun

Spring Eggstravaganza brings families together for an indoor kids’ egg hunt, bounce houses and more. We partner with the Town of Gypsum and Eagle Valley Library District to create a full community celebration.

May – Getting Ready for Summer

May is busy behind the scenes as staff prepare for summer. Our team gets ready for summer camps, planning activities and field trips, preparing staff and getting spaces ready for another busy season.

June – Get Moving!

This year we expanded our running programs to include opportunities for kids, teens and adults. Whether you’re just getting started or looking for a new challenge, there’s a place for everyone to get moving.

July – A Big Month

We launched our first-ever Rec Days during Gypsum Daze, along with our first Gypsum Daze Strongman competition, a pickleball competition and a 5K. It was a great way to showcase everything the Recreation Center has to offer.

August – Maintenance Week

Even the Gypsum Recreation Center needs a little TLC! During Maintenance Week, staff deep clean everything from locker rooms to fitness equipment while tackling maintenance projects throughout the facility. We may be closed, but our staff are hard at work getting the building ready for another year of fun.

September – Something New

We’re always looking for new ways for the community to connect. This year we introduced Cards, Games & Conversations, a monthly book club, and Adventures with Mike, giving our community even more opportunities to learn, socialize and try something new.

October – Halloween & Active Aging

October is packed with activities! Active Aging Week, October 5–9, will feature free workshops and classes for active older adults, including sound baths, mindfulness, Tai Chi and more.

On October 8, we’re introducing a new Costume Swap, where community members can donate gently used costumes and swap them for something new-to-them.

Then on October 29, the Recreation Center transforms for Rec or Treat, our huge annual Halloween celebration. With storytime, dance party, haunted house, and trick-or-treating, the event welcomes more than 400 kids each year.

November – Giving Back Again

November brings our annual Food Drive, where we collect and donate hundreds of pounds of food to the Community Market. It’s another opportunity for our community to support local families as the holiday season approaches.

December – Ending the Year with a Celebration

December is packed with community events! Our Toy Swap on December 3 takes place during the Town of Gypsum’s Home for the Holidays event and benefits the Youth Closet. Throughout November, we collect toy donations, which are then available for just $1 per pound.

On December 5, our annual Craft Fair features 40+ local vendors, giving shoppers a chance to support local makers and businesses.

Finally, we’ll ring in the new year with New Year’s Eve fireworks and crafts on December 31, in partnership with the Town of Gypsum.

Whether you’re here every day or just stop in for a special event, the Gypsum Recreation Center is a place where our community comes together. We’re proud of everything our members, participants, staff, and community partners make possible, and there’s still plenty of fun to come!
