Call for Nominations for Mountain Recreation Metropolitan District Board
The Mountain Recreation Board of Directors is seeking letters of interest from among the voters residing within District boundaries to fill a board vacancy, resulting from the resignation of Board President Liz Jones.
An online form has been created and linked to the District’s website below, to collect letters of interest. All submissions must be received by 5pm on Friday, September 23rd.
In her resignation letter to her fellow board members, Jones, who has accepted a position in Denver, stated, “It has been an honor to serve on this Board for the past 6.5 years and I am very proud of the work we’ve accomplished growing public service of the District. I’ve learned so much and greatly respect all of your hard work that has elevated the organization.”
Under Jones’s leadership, the District engaged residents in an effort to understand and deliver on needs expressed by the community. The District partnered with Eagle County Public Health to lead a community playground build day in the Dotsero Mobile Home Park, partnered with the Town of Gypsum to complete a “fitness facelift” in the Gypsum Recreation Center and restructuring of membership benefits to include fitness classes, child watch and tumble tots, added an outdoor ice rink to the Freedom park parking lot, and reconstructed the Eagle Sports Complex concessions and rest room facility.
The District also created greater transparency by developing a new and more accessible website, ensuring communications were in both English and Spanish, and reorganizing, rebranding, and legally renaming the District Mountain Recreation, winning the Vail Valley Partnership’s Organization of the Year in 2020.
A subcommittee of board, staff, and partners has been tapped to review letters and interview finalists to make a recommendation for appointment at the October 19th Mountain Rec Board meeting. The new director will immediately fill the unexpired term of Liz Jones, through May of 2023. The board will also elect board president and vice president positions at that meeting.
