2026 Clinics & Workshops

  • Pickleball Clinic: Building Points & Situational Awareness with Mike LeighFeb 16 (1:30-3 p.m.) | Edwards

    Learn the building blocks of pickleball with certified PPR instructor Mike Leigh. This 90-minute clinic, This class builds complete point construction from the baseline to the kitchen. Players will develop consistent groundstrokes, slices, lobs, and overheads using proper technique, movement, and placement. Instruction emphasizes smart 3rd shot decisions—when to drive or drop—and effective transition to the Non-Volley Zone, including offensive strategies like the Shake ’n Bake. Sessions conclude with integrated point play, helping players recognize transitions, anticipate opponents, and compete with confidence.

    Join us for a fun afternoon, paddles and balls will be provided.

  • Pickleball Clinic: Zen and the Art of PickleballMar 9 (1:30-3:30 p.m.) | Edwards

    Pickleball is as much mental as it is physical. This interactive clinic focuses on staying calm under pressure, sharpening focus, visualizing success, making good decisions, communicating positively with partners, and most importantly, having fun while competing. This session blends proven performance strategies with mindfulness techniques you can immediately apply on the court.

    Through discussion, practical exercises, and on-court application, players will learn how to:

    1. Stay calm and composed during high-pressure points
    2. Improve focus and consistency
    3. Use visualization to enhance performance
    4. Make better decisions in fast-paced games
    5. Communicate positively with partners
    6. Compete with confidence while enjoying the process

    Instructors:

    Mike Leigh holds a master’s degree in Biomechanics, has worked with the U.S. Olympic Committee, and is a PPR-certified pickleball teaching professional. Mike specializes in the mental game and helping players perform at their best when it matters most.

    Dylan Leigh holds a master’s degree in psychology, is a licensed psychotherapist, and serves as adjunct faculty at Naropa University, where he teaches mindfulness and meditation. Dylan brings evidence-based mindfulness practices that translate directly to improved performance and enjoyment in sport.

    To get signed up for your membership, please call your insurance company to receive your Fitness ID number. Bring that number to the front desk at the Gypsum Recreation Center, and we will activate your membership! All memberships include access to the fitness floor, pool, sport court, climbing wall, and fitness classes.

Gypsum Rec Center Fitness Classes

  • Tai Chi Fit

    Tai Chi Fit improves balance, develops better body mechanics for everyday life, increases energy, and increases stamina. The classes begin with a warm up and continues  through Qigong exercises followed by several movements that are inspired by Yang style Tai Chi.

  • Water Aerobics

    Exercising in the water is a challenging, yet fun workout that is easy on the joints! Come and let use the resistance of the water and power to your cardio workout!

  • Yoga / Gentle Yoga

    Good for the mind, body and soul, this stress-reliever will help you gain improved body awareness and flexibility through the yoga tradition. Take the class to tone your muscles or as a compliment to your normal exercise routine.

  • Zumba

    Zumba® combines Latin and international music with a fun and effective workout system which involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba’s choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo and martial arts.
