Bringing our community together is what Mountain Recreation is all about. We are fortunate to be in a position to offer our community moments that spark joy, put forward opportunities for our community to become one, and spread healthy and happy lives for all.

This summer thanks to a partnership with Mountain Youth we are happy to bring back the Outdoor Movie Series to Freedom Park in Edwards. So grab the picnic chair, blankets, and snacks to watch the stars, under the stars!

“Last summer, amidst the pandemic, the Outdoor Movie Series debuted and offered our community more than just a date night, a family friendly activity, or a night out with friends – it offered folks hope and a sense normalcy despite a stressful year. We launched the series planning for three diverse films and received enormous interest from our community. So much so, that we quickly filled up the 175 spots allowed per movie due to COVID and decided to add a fourth (movie),” said Lizzy Owens, Mountain Rec’s Community Engagement Manager, and orchestrator of the movie series. “This year we are excited to open up 250 spots for our community to come together and keep the momentum going in reclaiming our individual and community health and wellbeing.”

The series kicks off with a showing of Remember the Titans on Thursday, May 13 at 8:30pm. Movies are projected on a 40-foot screen and start at sunset. Admission for the series is free through a simple RSVP found by visiting MountainRec.org.

True to Mountain Rec’s process of listening and acting on community-driven needs and interests, this year’s movies were selected thanks to the help of last year’s movie attendants. Screenings continue on June 10th with The Sandlot, Coco on July 8th, and will wrap up with The Princess Bride on August 12th.

The Outdoor Movie Series is made possible thanks to lead sponsor, Ruggs Benedict. Thank you to Plumbing Systems Inc (PSI), SpeakUp ReachOut, and the Vail Daily for your support.

Socially distanced now, but not forever
