Please help us congratulate Sheryl Staten, the recipient of the 2025 Board of Directors Spotlight Award!

The Board of Directors Spotlight Award is Mountain Recreation’s highest annual recognition for full-time staff. It honors individuals who consistently go above and beyond their responsibilities, exemplify our mission and vision, and serve as role models in creating a culture where recreation transforms lives and strengthens community.

This award celebrates a Mountain Rec employee who:

  • Lives our Mission: Provides quality recreational experiences that ensure everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and happy life.
  • Carries out our Vision: Ensures recreation is welcoming, accessible, safe, and inspires community members to test their limits, try new activities, and make lasting connections.
  • Embodies our Philosophy: Creates experiences that make our community better than yesterday, achieves excellence in all they do, adapts with honesty and courage, and demonstrates true leadership in recreation—regardless of role.

The award recognizes not only what the employee achieves, but how they inspire others, strengthen our community, and bring Mountain Rec’s purpose to life every day.

Sheryl Staten has devoted nearly 25 years to Mountain Recreation, consistently ensuring our community has access to high-quality recreational experiences that support health, happiness, and inclusion. On February 14, 2026, she will celebrate her 25-year anniversary with Mountain Rec—a milestone that reflects her unwavering dedication and countless hours of hard work in creating a safe, welcoming, and high-quality environment where everyone can thrive.

Sheryl’s leadership makes recreation inspiring and accessible. She gives her time and energy selflessly—whether she’s on the ice teaching our youngest patrons to skate, staying late to ensure programs run smoothly, or stepping in wherever needed. She makes every participant feel seen, valued, and supported, creating an environment where the community feels genuinely welcome.

Sheryl exemplifies inspiring leadership. She leads by example, approaches challenges with honesty and courage, and adapts seamlessly to the needs of staff and patrons alike. During the opening of a new pool after years of waiting, her expertise, wisdom, and institutional knowledge were unmatched, helping guide the Aquatics team to record-breaking facility attendance and ensuring the community’s expectations were exceeded. And we all watched in awe of how skillfully she managed the extremely complex demands of the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink during a season with only one sheet of ice in the county—coordinating schedules, programs, and staff to keep everything running smoothly.

Sheryl embodies Mountain Recreation’s core values daily, such as:

  • Community: She builds lasting connections with patrons and colleagues.
  • Excellence: Her tireless dedication, expertise, and high standards inspire everyone around her.

While also living out additional principles that guide her work:

  • Inclusion: She ensures programs are accessible and welcoming for all.
  • Integrity: She operates with fairness, transparency, and professionalism.
  • Innovation: She applies her extensive experience to improve programs and facilities.
  • Wellness: She fosters both physical and emotional well-being for participants and staff.

Sheryl’s impact is immeasurable. Her enthusiasm, support, and guidance strengthen teams, mentor new staff, and lift the community’s experience of Mountain Recreation. Her decades of institutional knowledge and history of the facilities are invaluable. She lives and breathes Mountain Recreation every day, giving her whole heart to the work, and leaving a lasting, positive mark on colleagues, programs, and the thousands of community members she serves.
