Gypsum, CO – Gypsum Recreation Center staff are excited to announce upcoming upgrades and repairs to the Rec Center pool, as part of the District’s ongoing commitment to offer our community the best and most enjoyable facilities possible.

Starting Friday, September 1, the Gypsum Rec Center pool will be temporarily closed to the public, to allow crews to install a new and improved pool deck and repaint the walls in stages–this includes the pool area, locker rooms, and cabanas.

“We’re happy to see these necessary improvements in the books for the month of September,” shares Scott Ruff, Superintendent of Recreation Facilities. “We’ll be improving the quality of the pool by making the transition to a pool deck that is easier and faster to clean – saving staff time and tax dollars – as well as being easier on the feet and safer for everyone visiting the pool.”

Along with a new pool deck, crews will be repainting the walls in stages, to address damage caused by above-average humidity from a failing HVAC system supply motor at the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023. The HVAC system was originally installed when the facility was built in 2006 and has since been fixed and is operating smoothly.

Crews will be repainting in stages, to allow the community access to changing areas at all times. More details will be shared in late August.

“We ask for your patience while we work through these improvements. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but we trust these improvements will allow us to continue to deliver high quality facilities. We expect the pool will reopen on Monday, October 2, and we are dedicated to minimizing this downtime to the best of our ability,” shares Ruff.
