Can I Participate?

2020 Youth Ballet & Yoga Update:
At this time all Ballet and Kids Yoga classes are unavailable until Fall of 2020. Our instructor is recovering from surgery related to an injury. We are actively searching for a temporary replacement, please contact Kevin Ives if you or a friend is interested in teaching.

Introductory Tiny Tots & Pre-Ballet classes are designed to build your child’s motor skills, memory and confidence. After conquering pre-ballet, kids are welcome to move to Ballet 1 and Ballet 2.

Four week sessions run September – May and typically include one class a week for just $28-$38 at the Gypsum Rec Center. Classes are offered for kids 2-10 years old. See below for detailed class descriptions and to view availability on our registration software.

We offer a kids yoga class at the Gypsum Rec Center for kids 5-13 years old that introduce them to the practice of yoga. Classes are just $28-$38 per session and follow the same session schedule as ballet classes.

    Kimber Howe | 970.777.8888

    Kimber Howe is a California native who found her passion for expression and performing at age 4. She emulated her all time dance inspirations and idols, Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson. At age 19 she started teaching and coaching, passing her love of creative expression to her students. After relocating to Colorado with her husband and their 4 kiddos, Kimber grew her passion of purposeful work, attended her first 200hr yoga teacher training program and currently teaches yoga, fitness, swimming and dance classes with Mountain Recreation at the Gypsum Rec Center. Kimber seeks to help others thrive in life by nurturing the body, mind, and spirit connection. She loves yoga and fitness, because it makes her feel good and allows her to eat more ice cream and tacos.

  • Kids YogaAges 5-13 | $28 | 4 weeks

    Cooperative games, themed activities, music and art engage the natural energy and enthusiasm of a young child. Classes explore yoga poses, breathing exercises, visual imagery and relaxation techniques while conveying lessons, inself-expression, body image, social skills, positive thinking, and environmental awareness.

  • Tiny Tots BalletAge 2-4 | $38 | 4 weeks

    This class is an introduction to ballet and acro, in a fun and playful environment. This class is designed to improve motor skills, memory and socialization. Students will learn proper ballet placement and positions through the use of imaginary with creative song and dance.


  • Pre-BalletAge 4-5 | $38 | 4 weeks

    An introduction to ballet with beginning development of ballet concepts including turn out, coordination, spatial awareness and a specific focus on class etiquette. Students will learn positions of the feet, and introductory movement vocabulary. By participating in the first levels of traditional ballet training, students learn concentration and endurance and become proficient in fundamental dance movement and ballet technique.

  • Ballet 1Age 5-7 | $38 | 4 weeks

    This class is perfect for students who are ready to take the leap from Pre-Ballet to the beginner ballet level 1.  Basic building blocks of ballet are introduced and become more structured. Students will learn classical ballet techniques and terminology. Each class will include barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. Focus is placed on proper alignment of the body, shape of the foot when pointed, positions of arms and legs, developing balance, and to concept of turn out.

  • Ballet 2Age 7-10 | $38

    Moving from Level I into Level II is a very large step and requires a love of ballet, the ability to maintain an attentive focus in class and the desire to advance in technique. In Ballet II your dancer will continue their education on positions of the arms, direction of the body, and increase their movement vocabulary. Class begins with work at the barre to build strength and coordination, followed by center exercises, culminating in a grand allegro combination or variation. Clear explanations of exercises help students use the ballet vocabulary in a simple, practical way that leads to increased technical understanding, healthy physical development, and lifelong enjoyment.

    Prerequisite: 1 year of Ballet 1 with Ms Kimber or test in required for enrollment in this class.
